A Message from Rick

I consider running for judge an opportunity to give something back to the community and the legal profession that have been very kind to me.

During my 15 year career as a trial lawyer, it has become apparent that our courts work best when experienced lawyers are willing to serve the system as judges. Simply stated, lawyers who try cases know what it takes to make a good judge. I believe it is now time for me to make the most of my experience and step forward to serve this community as a judge.

The Franklin County Municipal Court is the "People’s Court" where ordinary citizens are most likely to appear when faced with a legal problem. Ask yourself how you would feel if you had to appear in court. Chances are, that like most people, you would be a bit nervous, and would hope that the judge you faced was an expert in the law and was willing to listen to all the facts of your case in a fair and impartial way. You would probably also hope that the court process was fair, efficient and did not waste your time.

As an experienced trial lawyer who has represented hundreds of clients, I understand your feelings, and I know what a judge needs to do to handle the cases that come before the court. If given the opportunity, I will be the kind of judge you will be proud of--a judge who makes decisions based on the rule of law, fairness, and common sense to protect the community, but also a judge who rules with compassion when the situation demands.

Our system of laws is not perfect by any measure, and it is not unusual to hear complaints about what is wrong with our courts. But instead of complaining, I have decided to do my part to improve what is lacking while maintaining the strengths of our system that works so well. For these reasons, I am asking you to support me by voting "Rick Brown for Judge" on November 3, 2009.
